Respecting the Care

It would be the most abrupt post I have ever written. Or most abrupt anything I have ever written.

It's a funny thing actually. When people come and start talking to you sharing their lives; you start caring for them; you do; strange, still, you do, even if you don't know them for a long time. You care to an extent that you also get concerned for them. You do; foolish, yes; you still do.

Then one fine sunny day, when you are just inquiring about their well-being out of pure care, what do you get? A nice little message saying that you don't have a place in their heart; it is goddamn crowded with people already there; comic; as if you were looking for a seat there. Oh, that also means you were not to be concerned for them; you were not to ask anything; you were not to say anything; you are goddamn not supposed to care; comic?

I have pets, nice honest to heaven dogs. They belong to different breeds; but they have few similar characteristics: they are loyal, yes; they are trust-worthy, yes; they trust me, yes; they care, yes. It may sound strange, but I can feel these qualities of them always.

I have also a full heart, with people occupying their corners. But still I manage one small corner from where I respect their care and trust. I always do.

The funniest thing of all, I lived about with an illusion that human beings too can recognize a fellow being's care and at least respect it, not necessarily reciprocate it; reciprocity not being a requisite for care.

We care because we care. May be that's why we get silk-knifed on every street corner.

Words, Beings & Relationships

The more close to a person we feel...the more we care for someone...the more we think of someone as our own...the more dear someone becomes...when someone becomes really our own and knows it for a fact, we have to become all the more careful in our conduct, our choice of words, and how we use those words.

There's too much of understanding. But at the same time, there is too much of emotional openness, emotional tenderness, and emotional vulnerability here.

Even a pin-prick goes like a stab right at the nerve joints.

We can be wounded vitally, in the cardinal areas, only by those whom we love.

And we always feel secure knowing that they too know that truth; and care for us enough, love us so much as to not do that murderous act or hurt us anywhere else either.

Something that pass off as a momentary lapse in others, really takes the appearance of a betrayal in the action of a dear one.

It is not the act really.

But what comes to be expected of us, because of our implicit promise of understanding in that closeness, the tender fibers of the bond of caring, everything that is right & good in that relationship.
Each of our action, till that moment, has built up a bubble of expectation. Even a pin of a small slip bursts it. And the whole foundation shakes to the core. But the worse thing is to face the pain in the eyes of the dear one. It is all the more painful for you.

Got to learn this lesson, in one of life's little stabbing tragedies.

Though the initial act was just a momentary overlooking of vocabulary. But it got me a vital communication.

Grand Gestures etc.

The Grand Gestures are dead, mostly
In love, true.

But I was thinking of friendship. And Grand Gestures are dead here, too. No more Gilgamesh-Enkidu stuff. Nothing Jai-Veeru way.

It's a mundane age we live in. But we don't miss those Grand Gestures. Because we have never known any of them personally, has never indulged in one. Just saw them in movies and read about them in epics. We can do without them, mostly

A friend calls little late in the evening to share her little joy, talks awhile about why she's so delighted on this occasion, the specialness of her joy, a simple good night and the conversation is over.

But in that small conversation lives the true essence of friendship.

Because what else is friendship except the sharing of simple joys and the sorrows of life, and being a person trusted enough to share both; Smiling together in the other's joy, being there on his/her rainy days.

Friendship is simplicity itself in essence. A friend is a person someone can turn to with his/her smiles, or tears, and on both occasion demand and receive the same sincerity of emotions. Its so simple.

And what an honour it is to be considered a friend!

They Don't Fit in the Pocket

I must have been in Class 7 when I read my first Hindi pulp fiction. It was a novel named  Sile Huye Honth  (Sewn Lips). The hero of the...
